Atelier · New City, NY
Custom formalwear, bridal design, and expert alterations — hand-crafted by a master seamstress with 40 years at the machine.
The Atelier
She walks in with a photo on her phone, a wedding date circled in red, a memory of the way her grandmother's dress moved. She leaves with something that fits like it has always belonged to her.
That's the work — forty years of it, and still no two pieces alike.
What We Create
One-of-a-kind formal looks for weddings, galas, proms, special occasions, and milestone events.
Elegant gown work, careful fittings, and special-occasion support for garments that need to look polished.
Restructure garments, improve fit, adjust hems, refine silhouettes, and bring clothing closer to the way the client wants it to feel.
Four considered steps, from your first idea to the moment you wear it.
A relaxed conversation about your vision, the occasion, fabrics, and silhouette inspiration.
Sketches refined, fabrics selected, and over a dozen precise measurements taken for your custom pattern.
Your garment is cut, stitched, and hand-finished in-house with couture-grade techniques.
Detailed fittings ensure the silhouette drapes beautifully — and the piece feels unmistakably yours.
Trust is sewn into every garment. Hear from the women who have shared their milestones with the atelier.
"There's nothing like wearing clothes made just for you and Lorraine brought this experience to me. It's absolutely incredible how she is able to create anything my mind can imagine without any doubt. She made me and my girlfriend matching attire for a wedding and I've never got so many compliments in my life. Now I aspire to wear only custom clothing one day. What a rewarding experience it is working with her. Thank you Customly Yours!"
"Ms. Freeman is such a delight to work with. She has a keen eye for detail and exquisite taste. She upgraded my wedding veil and dress to be absolutely stunning and appease both myself and my mom (both pretty hard critics). She is skilled in saree blouse and lehenga stitching and alterations. Ms. Freeman also adjusted my sister's lehenga and added material that my sister really liked. I'm excited to go through my closet and make unique alterations to my older sarees and give them new life."
"I have used Customly Yours on numerous occasions to repair my favorite dress coat, make a blazer from scratch and tailor a suit I purchased. Every time Lorraine went above and beyond my expectation and gave me a wonderful product at an excellent price. I highly recommend her business."
"Lorraine was very skilled, helpful, and professional when I needed my indo-western bridesmaid outfit altered. I came in with the fabric I needed to add to the outfit and she made sure that my needs were met. Highly recommend her for any outfit needs — wedding or otherwise!"
"Very friendly and knowledgeable. Quality work. She's dependable. Highly recommend."
Most custom garments take between four and twelve weeks depending on complexity, fabric availability, and the number of fittings required. Bridal gowns are typically scheduled six to nine months in advance. We always recommend an early consultation to reserve your place on the atelier calendar.
Absolutely — bridal, bridesmaid, prom, and formal gowns are a specialty of the atelier. Whether you are designing a custom piece from scratch or need expert alterations on a gown you already own, every stitch is hand-finished with the care these milestone moments deserve.
Bring any inspiration images, fabric swatches, or sketches you have collected. If you have a garment to alter, please bring it along with the shoes you plan to wear. For first fittings, undergarments similar to those you will wear on the day are very helpful for accuracy.
Yes — every class is tailored to the student's level. Many of our clients begin with no experience and progress at their own pace through foundational projects. Equipment and materials are provided, and the studio is a relaxed, welcoming environment to learn.
For certain custom projects, an initial virtual consultation is possible to discuss design direction and budget. However, fittings and final measurements must be completed in person at the atelier to ensure the precision our work is known for.
